Say Heello To Twitter’s New Competitor

In: Social Media| Technology

Twitter has a twin! New social media website, Heello, was launched last month as a competitor to Twitter. It’s almost identical in everything but name. Instead of a “tweet” there’s a “ping”, “followers” become “listeners”, and “retweets” are “echoes.” You can also send private messages (direct messages) both to an individual and to groups of members.

The character limit on Heello is 140, just like Twitter’s. Even the interface is similar, although you can attach a video, photo and/or your location to your pings. The only major difference appears to be that Heello continuously updates its stream, but no doubt to some, that could prove annoying! Media is displayed within the stream and users can @reply you, as they would on Twitter.

The man behind Heello is Noah Everett, founder of Twitpic, the photo sharing site, optimized for use on Twitter.

Since Twitter decided to launch their own competitor for Twitpic, some journalists have speculated that Heello is simply Everett’s revenge against Twitter :)
